  The most obvious reason for wearing braces, spacers, expanders, and retainers is to correct the alignment of teeth. In some cases, treatment involves expanding the upper arch to create more room for permanent adult teeth. Other patients need correction of a crossbite, overbite, or underbite. Yet other cases are purely cosmetic, straightening the front teeth for a more attractive smile.

  Orthodontic Appliances

  In orthodontics, we use a variety of appliances to align and straighten teeth, adjust the bite, and improve overall oral health. Each appliance has a different purpose, so the treatment plan for your child or teen may include one or more of the following: Bite plate; Elastics; Forsus springs; Headgear; MARA/Herbst appliances; Retainers; Reverse pull headgear; RPE (Rapid palatal expander).

  Life With Braces

  It is important for your child to know how to properly brush and floss with braces, as well as how to troubleshoot discomfort and irritation. Some mild pain is expected after braces are initially placed and after adjustment appointments, but severe pain or damaged braces components should prompt a visit to our Norcross office.
